Although one path to alleviating the chronic shortage of principal investigators is to recruit them from among the ranks of physicians, Frenova’s Christina Khan explains that some of the barriers stem from physicians balancing their practice workload with the oversight of their research staff and the conduct of the clinical trials. Beginning with education, Kahn outlines the steps needed to train and support more physicians as researchers and to encourage their enthusiastic participation as clinical trial advocates.
